Car Reviews for Novice and Expert Buyers

Car reviews are essential for the potential new car owner. A consumer should never walk into a car sales establishment without first having read at least one review related to the car of their dreams.

When researching various car reviews, there are several key features a consumer should be looking for. These include comments on the following:

  • Engine size
  • Horse Power
  • Price
  • Mileage
  • Safety Ratings
  • Air conditioning
  • Radio capability
  • Power Steering

Depending on your needs, a car review's emphasis on one feature or another might influence your decision to select one car over another. For example, for the consumer that will be traveling long distances frequently, comments regarding gas mileage are likely to be more important than comments regarding power steering, though steering is most certainly a key consideration.

When purchasing a new vehicle, keep in mind that some features are easily upgradeable. A car radio for example is easily upgraded into a CD player after purchase. For some, air conditioning may not be an option, especially if the owner lives in a particularly warm climate. Some modern vehicles have extravagant features that include DVD players and pre-installed TV’s. These luxuries generally are not needed by most average consumers, but they are more increasingly demanded. A family with several children might be interested in a vehicle that has some sort of built in entertainment center to pass the time during lengthy road trips.

Car reviews are generally generated by agencies such as Consumer Reports. Car reviews might also be generated as a result of stringent testing requirements that measure a vehicles safety. Safety ratings are in fact commonly included within car reviews. The National Highway Traffic Safety Association publishes car reviews that include information on rollover ratings for example. Most car manufacturers will perform their own tests and reviews of their vehicles, but these might be more opinionated than reviews from national agencies or other organizations not tied to a specific manufacturer.
